Skupski has leapt to prominence in 2009 by reaching the final of six ITF Challenger doubles events with Colin Fleming. They have won two titles and have climbed to 108 in the world doubles rankings.
“I’ve watched Ken a few times this summer and been very impressed with him,” said Lloyd, who is currently on a scouting mission at the US Open.
“Colin and Ken are a very good partnership and I think it’s only a matter of time before they get in the top 50. It was a case of selecting either Colin or Ken. Colin had a chance last time and I know what to expect from him. Now I want to see Ken at close quarters and see how he gets on in this kind of environment.
“Hopefully Ken will use the Davis Cup as a platform to really show what he’s got.”
Anders Borg, Tournament Director of the LITT, commented:
“We are so pleased for Ken; it feels like only yesterday that we introduced him on centre court as the next hopeful. And what a debut - taking Marc Rosset into a third set at the age of 17!”
Skupski is joined in the squad by world No 2 Andy Murray, along with doubles specialist Ross Hutchins, British No 2 James Ward, Josh Goodall and Dan Evans.
